Irena Keckes received PhD in Fine Arts from the University of Auckland, New Zealand (2015), MFA in printmaking from Tokyo University of the Arts, Japan (2005) and BA in art education from Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb, Croatia (2000). Integrating theory and practice has been a key element to her research through which she has been exploring connections between eco-Buddhism and printmaking, extended forms of print and art/craft relationship. Her practice involves large-scale monochrome woodcuts and print installations. Irena’s artwork has been exhibited internationally in many group and independent exhibitions. She presented at IMPACT 10 International Printmaking Conference, Spain (2018), SGCI Print Conference in Las Vegas (2018), SGCI Print Conference in Portland USA (2016), IMPACT 9 International Printmaking Conference, China (2015), 4th International Printmaking Symposium at University of Auckland, NZ (2015), IMPACT 8 international printmaking conference that took place in Scotland (2013) and the 2nd International Mokuhanga Conference at Tokyo University of the Arts, Japan (2014). Irena exhibited at the Festival of Pacific Arts in Guam Museum and Isla Center for the Arts (2016), and she curated an International Exhibition of Contemporary Print UOG 2016, 2017, and 2018, at Isla Center for the Arts. She as well showed her work at the International Print Biennial, Northern Print, UK (September 2016), and at International Forum Graphics Leopolis, Ukraine (2016/2017). In March 2017, Irena participated in “Homewards” portfolio of prints at SGCI Print Conference in Atlanta, USA 2017, and SGCI Print Conference in Las Vegas 2018. She as well was an Artist in Residence in Puebla, Mexico 2018, and participated in "Frotnera" portflio exhibition at MAPC printmaking conference in Wyoming, MPACT 10 International Printmaking Conference in Santander, Spain, 2018, "Panchina Rosa" exhibition in Catania, Italy, 2019 and Poeticas del Arte Contemporaneo, in Mexico CIty, Mexico, 2019. Since September 2015, Irena is an Associate Professor of Art at University of Guam.
